Nile Swim Club

Founded 1959 by three families who were denied membership at a private pool — 326 bondholders put in $250 each to build their own. The first private swimming pool owned and operated by African Americans in the United States, open to all races since day one. Still running: swim lessons, swim team, diving, fitness, basketball clinics, tennis camps and senior wellness. Seasonal, May-September.
